Now I know exactly how old I am ... too old to stand on my feet and cook for 12 or 14 hours straight ... counseling was a piece of cake compared to this!! It was fun but am I tired! I signed up for a whole week for middle camp?? What was I thinking?? I did get some pictures ... not as many as I wanted to but I couldn't get out of the kitchen!! I will download them from the camera this week and post them for you. You girls who remember the old bathrooms with 1 shower that you had to sneak into in the dead of night would be impressed with the new ones. There are about 5 big roomy private shower stalls and that many toilets too!! The rest is pretty much the same other than the new building for staff (of course, right girls??) and electricity in the cabins!! I stayed in #6 (next to our old #5 and I thought "if only those walls could talk!!" Anyhow, here is a little story that someone sent me that I thought was cute as well as thought provoking! Enjoy!!
THE CROSS
A young man was at the end of his rope, seeing no way out, he dropped to his knees in prayer
"Lord, I can't go on," he said. "I have too heavy a cross to bear." The Lord replied, "My son, if you can't bear its weight, just place your cross inside this room. Then, open that other door and pick out any cross you wish."
The man was filled with relief and said, "Thank you Lord," and he did as he was told. Upon entering the other room, he saw many crosses; some so large the tops were not visible. Then, he spotted a tiny cross leaning against a far wall. "I'd like that one, Lord," he whispered. The Lord replied, "My son, that is the cross you just brought in."
When life's problems seem overwhelming, it helps to look around and see what other people are coping with. You may consider yourself far more fortunate than you imagined.
YOUR CROSS
Whatever your cross
Whatever your pain
There will always be sunshine
After the rain
Perhaps you may stumble
Perhaps even fall
But God's always there
To help you through it all

Cooking for Kids
I am on my way to Family Camp on Wednesday to cook with Shelly. I will be helping out in the kitchen as much as I can fit in with my babysitting job! I am going for the whole week of Middle Camp because 3 of my grandbabies will be there so I'm only leaving one for them to find a babysitter for! I am so thankful to be able to work again ... as far as I'm concerned, you can't grow if you're not working in the church ... at least that's how it works for me! I sat there, Sunday after Sunday, biting at the bit when I would hear them calling for help so I am very, very happy to now be able to respond!
Some great news for those of you who know Faith (Brewer) Nagle ... her husband got saved today!! Faith is busy crying and rejoicing today ... and I am so very happy for her. My daughter and granddaughter recently got baptized so God is very good, isn't he?? I think my worst fault is not having patience and leaving things to happen in God's time, not mine! I give up far too easily and just say to myself, "it's a lost cause - they'll never get saved" and so on and even slack off or even stop praying for people that are dear to me. These things were a real challenge to me to pray unceasingly, fervently and earnestly for people, even to weep and ask God to spare them until they realize their need to be saved.
Anyhow, as I was preparing for camp, I was making my old standby muffins (I don't know how many of these I made for my youth group a few years ago) and thought I would pass the recipe on for those of you who don't have it. It is great to make with kids ... Emma makes them almost every week for her and Joey ... she actually knows the recipe off by heart and probably could make them herself now! I often make them in the mini muffin tins and use miniature chocolate chips for something different!
Extra Chocolatey Banana Muffins
1/2 cup canola oil
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
1 cup mashed banana (aro 3)
1 cup, rounded, chocolate chips
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
Pinch of salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
In mixing bowl, whisk together egg, oil and sugar; stir in chocolate chips. Combine flour, baking soda, salt and cinnamon; stir into mixture just until moistened. Spoon into 12 greased muffin cups and bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes.
Emma actually moans as she eats them ... what better testimony can I give you about how appealing they are to kids ... and kind of healthy too!
I'll try to get some good shots while out at camp to put on for you! I'm going to miss the Fosmarks being there but I understand he is being operated on the 28th so I guess they won't be there!!

Update

I know I am being very slow in posting but I guess I'm just too busy!?!?! How did I ever work, raise 2 kids as a single mom and keep up with everything?? I have no idea!! Since I last posted, I went before the deacons at church which went very well ... and then before the church membership on Wednesday night where I lost it! That was not supposed to happen! I had very good little notes and forgot to even look at them ... I don't even know what I ended up saying but did cry but finally got it back together so was able to finish up and was voted in as a re-member! Now I can go to work! Shelly Courser already has me lined up to work at camp with her and Lorraine said she could use me whenever ... I didn't even have to sign up ... just show up! Looks like I'll be even busier! I was at the trailer with Lynn and the kids for the weekend and we brought back a bunch of chicken and 4 turkeys for camp ... I'll pick up more every time I'm down for them as it is a lot cheaper!
I wanted to show you this awesome project that Emma did in preschool for her Dad for Father's Day ... Hope it turns out ... it's a keeper for sure! He says he has no idea where she got the "moon is made of cheese" thing because he never told her any such thing ... guess that's all she could think of at the time! Talk to you again soon!

The duck and the devil ...
Here is a story that I particular liked ... I am thankful that I have finally stopped letting the devil make a slave out of me! I will be giving my testimony this coming Wednesday night at the church to see if they will let me come back. I met with the deacons last night and was very blessed ... I was prepared for a blast but they were very gracious and told me it was great to see someone come back and not be bitter about having been removed from the membership as many do. I guess bitterness is just one bad habit I fortunately do not have! I honestly just thought about blaming anyone ... I KNEW the problem was with me! I am very nervous about this week so you can all pray for me!! Here is the story!
There was a little boy visiting his grandparents on their farm. He was given a slingshot to play with out in the woods. He practiced in the woods; but he could never hit the target. Getting a little discouraged, he headed back for dinner. As he was walking back he saw Grandma's pet duck. Just out of impulse, he let the slingshot fly, hit the duck square in the head and killed it. He was shocked and grieved! In a panic, he hid the dead duck in the wood pile; only to see his sister watching! Sally had seen it all, but she said nothing.
After lunch the next day Grandma said, 'Sally, let's wash the dishes.' But Sally said, 'Grandma, Johnny told me he wanted to help in the kitchen.' Then she whispered to him, 'Remember the duck?' So Johnny did the dishes. Later that day, Grandpa asked if the children wanted to go fishing and Grandma said, 'I'm sorry but I need Sally to help make supper.' Sally just smiled and said, 'Well that's all right because Johnny told me he wanted to help.' She whispered again, 'Remember the duck?' So Sally went fishing and Johnny stayed to help.
After several days of Johnny doing both his chores and Sally's; he finally couldn't stand it any longer. He came to Grandma and confessed that he had killed the duck. Grandma knelt down, gave him a hug and said, 'Sweetheart, I know. You see, I was standing at the window and I saw the whole thing, but because I love you, I forgave you. I was just wondering how long you would let Sally make a slave of you.'
Thought for the day and every day thereafter ... Whatever is in your past, whatever you have done... and the devil keeps throwing it up in your face (lying, cheating, debt, fear, bad habits, hatred, anger, bitterness, etc.)...whatever it is...You need to know that God was standing at the window and He saw the whole thing. He has seen your whole life. He wants you to know that He loves you and that you are forgiven. He's just wondering how long you will let the devil make a slave of you.
The great thing about God is that when you ask for forgiveness; He not only forgives you, but He forgets. It is by God's grace and mercy that we are saved. And always remember: God is at the window!

Update
I am back home and mighty glad to be here!! I have certainly had better vacations but hey, the weather was great, the shopping fabulous and the food was fine ... if the company left a lot to be desired, then I know what not to do next time! I thought God had put me in instances before to teach me patience but they were nothing compared to this! I had to have no opinion whatsover, speak when spoken to pretty much ... because no matter what I said, it was disputed ... very tough for those of you who know me!! I have heard of "people who know everything" but I stayed with the King and Queen! Even when I was looking for a church to go to, it was "it doesn't really matter where you go because we are all trying to get to the same place anyhow" ... do you know how hard it was to keep my mouth shut? I had learned at this point that it was useless to say anything ... it was a no win situation!
I was very disappointed at not being able to connect with Sara but I did call her and we had a great chat! Next year, God willing, if I go down, we decided we would have to get her and her family to come to the beach for a week or 2, whatever they can get away! The kids would have a ball!! Had I been thinking clearly, that would have worked this year but we left it too late!!
I actually arrived home on Sunday, May 20th but have been so busy all week unpacking and cleaning up the winter-summer clothes thing that I haven't had a chance to post! Doug & Lynn have their trailer down at the Pleasant Lake campground in Maine so I will be spending a lot of time there with the kids this summer. Doug, Emma and I went down on Wednesday and came back Friday. He built us a great deck! The trailer borders right on the playground so it will be great ... I can lay back in the sun on the deck with my book and watch the kids right there in front of me. Of course we will spend lots of time at the beach section in the water too! Doug works almost every weekend all summer and Lynn works every weekday so they won't have much time there except with me and the kids individually! The blackflies are VERY bad down there right now though so hopefully by the time school ends and we are there more, they will have left!! I actually bought a Skin So Soft bug spray while I was in the US and it worked great ... unfortunately you can't get it in Canada so I'll have to find myself an Avon lady there!
I'll take some pictures and post them later! I forgot my camera there so I can't even see what I have on it ... not much as it was certainly not a "picture taking vacation!"
I have also been busy doing my retirees' newsletter and found this little tidbit which made me think of you, Gail, with your Raggedy Dolls! I bought a cute little Raggedy Ann outfit while I was away ... at a Cracker Barrell of all places ... that I'm going to send to Sara to remind her of you and your dolls. It is a size 4 so won't fit her for awhile but it is too cute! And it has a hat!!
The Story of Raggedy Ann and Andy
Raggedy Ann, beloved by children for nearly a century, first appeared as a faceless rag doll that artist and cartoonist Johnny Gruelle found in the family attic in the early 1900s. Gruelle painted a smiling face on the doll and gave it to his daughter, Marcella, who adopted Raggedy Ann as her constant playmate. In 1915, Gruelle submitted a drawing of Raggedy Ann to the U.S. Patent Office. When Marcella was a teenager, she died tragically from an infection. Her father dealt with his grief by writing down and collecting all the Raggedy Ann stories he had told his daughter when she was younger. The first Raggedy Ann collection of stories, along with commercially produced Raggedy Ann dolls, appeared in 1918. A year later, Gruelle patented Raggedy Andy, and for the next two decades, wrote and published a Raggedy Ann and Andy book nearly every year, as well as other children's adventure stories and fairy tales.
A little side note ... I have a ton of rhubarb in my backyard ... I don't like it at all but if any of you who are close, want some ... let me know and I'll get it to you!! I'll try to post more often!! My life is a little boring but I always have lots of great stories and so on to share!!

Stories
This has been a busy week ... I'm getting ready to head down to Myrtle Beach for a month, leaving early Friday morning. I am armed with your telephone number, Sara, so hopefully I'll be visiting!! I was telling John Lenihan Sunday night that I was going and hopefully to see you and he wants to come too! He only gets cuter and cuter!! As usual, I have procrastinated and am now rushing around trying to get everything done from finishing up my Retirees' Club stuff to getting my summer tires on to paying bills and getting banking done to maybe packing by Thursday!! I have to go to my oldest grandson's birthday tomorrow ... Brandon will be 14 tomorrow ... I can't believe it!! One little note of joy as well as disappointment ... Natalie, Brandon and Brittany are all getting baptized on April 29th and I am going to miss it!! How cruel is that?? I have been waiting so long and now will miss it!! No fair!!! I will have a whole month of "blogging" to catch up on when I get back ... see you all then!!
Here is another little "story" that I received and thought it was well worth passing on.
One day, one friend asked another, "How is it that you are always so happy? You have so much energy, and you never seem to get down" With her eyes smiling, she said, "I know the Secret!" "What secret is that?" To which she replied, "I'll tell you all about it, but you have to promise to share the Secret with others." "The Secret is this: I have learned there is little I can do in my life that will make me truly happy. I must depend on God to make me happy and to meet my needs. When a need arises in my life, I have to trust God to supply according to HIS riches. I have learned most of the time I don't need half of what I think I do. He has never let me down. Since I learned that 'Secret', I am happy." The questioner's first thought was, "That's too simple!" But upon reflecting over her own life she recalled how she thought a bigger house would make her happy, but it didn't! She thought a better paying job would make her happy, but it hadn't. When did she realize her greatest happiness? Sitting on the floor with her grandchildren, playing games, eating pizza or reading a story, a simple gift from God. Now you know it too! We can't depend on people to make us happy. Only GOD in His infinite wisdom can do that. Trust HIM! And now I pass the Secret on to you! So once you get it, what will you do? YOU have to tell someone the Secret, too! That GOD in His wisdom will take care of YOU! But it's not really a secret... We just have to believe it and do it... Really trust God!

Recipe
I just read Sara's recipe for Creamed Corn and how great it sounded! I will be trying it soon as corn is one of my favorite veggies, right after squash! I have been into the Spaghetti Squash thing lately ... Lynn and I love it just baked in the oven and then filled with home made spaghetti sauce, topped with some shredded cheese of your choice and put under the broiler until it is melted. Yum!!
Here are recipes I am instructed to make for all our family meals ... that is so Lynn and Natalie can take home the leftovers ... It is a steady stream out of here with all the leftovers after dinner. I have to make the Veggie Casserole for the girls, a broccoli and cauliflower dish casserole and Sweet Potato Casserole along with my French Apple Pie for Clay and Brandon. Guess what I'll be doing this weekend!! I have some great recipes so I'll be sharing some of them on days when I seem to have nothing else to say ... can you just imagine that!!
Veggie Casserole
Can Cream of Celery Soup
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 cup sour cream
1/2 cup chopped celery
Small chopped onion
Small chopped green pepper
2 oz. jar sliced pimentos (I leave out if I don't have it)
17 oz. can green beans, drained (I have used frozen)
16 oz. can corn, drained (I have used frozen)
3/4 cup cheese flavored cracker crumbs
2 T. melted butter
Combine soup, cheese, sour cream, celery, onion, green pepper and pimentos. Stir in beans and corn; pour into buttered 2 qt. casserole and bake, uncovered, at 325 for 25-30 minutes. Combine crumbs and butter, sprinkle over veggies and cook 10 minutes longer.
Sweet Potato Casserole
3 cups cooked and mashed sweet potatoes
3 eggs
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/4 cup soft butter or margarine
1 cup milk
1/2 cup coconut
1/2 t. nutmeg
1/2 t. cinnamon
Beat above ingredients until smooth; pour into a greased 9x13 baking dish. Combine 3 cups crushed cornflakes, 1/2 cup melted butter or margarine and 1 cup brown sugar. Sprinkle on top of casserole and bake for 1 hour at 350. (I usually half this recipe, depending on how many are coming.)
French Apple Pie
9" pie crush
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup cornstarch
1/2 t. nutmeg
1/4 t. cinnamon
Pinch salt
6 cups thinly sliced apples (aro. 6) ... I used a mixture of different types of apples for great flavor.
Preheat oven to 350. Mix sugar, cornstarch and spices; stir in apples and pour into crust. Top with crumb topping (Mix 1 cup flour with 1/2 cup brown sugar and cut in 1/2 cup butter or margarine). Bake at 350 for 1 hour and 30 minutes.
(I pat the topping gently down over the apples ... mine always seems to boil over ... maybe I used too many apples!! ... so I have learned to put a pan under the pie plate!) This is a big favorite and everyone always want the recipe once they've tasted it!)
